Be of the Same Mind

by Dale Grissom

From The Reminder, January 30, 2011

The apostle Paul admonished the Philippian brethren to be united in love, to be of one mind:  “Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love; being of one accord, of one mind.  Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.  Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippines 2:2-5).  How precious it is for God’s family to be filled with peace and love, for each to put his brother’s welfare ahead of his own!

So how do we develop a loving relationship within the family of God?  The answer is really quite simple:  we work at it.  Just as our relationship with our earthly family must be carefully and lovingly nurtured, so must our relationship with our spiritual family.  The more time we spend getting to know one another, laughing together, crying together, and learning to bear one another’s burdens, the stronger the tie will be that binds us.  And what a great joy to someday be in heaven with all those we have known and loved and worshipped with here on earth!

May each of us strive for a pure heart, one that puts the need of others before our own.  May we put aside pride, selfishness, and pettiness and work toward developing those attributes that will build up the Lord’s church.
