The Narrow Way

Consider carefully the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:13, 14: “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Most people want to follow that which is popular. They want to be swept along with the crowd and cruise through life with as little effort as possible, all the while thinking that they are acceptable to the Lord.
The world has chosen the broad way and is headed for destruction. Many in the religious world are treading the broad way also. Some try to keep one foot on the narrow road and one foot on the broad way, but the Bible tells us clearly that we cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). We must travel the narrow path if we want to be right with the Lord.
Access to the narrow way is granted only to those who are obedient to the gospel of Christ (Romans 1:16). Once we are on the narrow road, we must be careful to follow the map God has given us in His word, not adding to or taking away from it, and we must travel the right path to the end. While on our journey, we must continue to grow as Christians. “And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:5-8)
The narrow road will never be crowded because only a few will find it. That fact is especially tragic because anyone who wants to can find this road by looking in the New Testament. Let each of us determine to study and obey God’s teachings so we can be sure we are on the narrow road that leads to eternal life.
