The B-I-B-L-E

In Sunday School and Pew-Packers, we teach our children a song about the Bible called “The B-I-B-L-E.” You probably learned it yourself in Vacation Bible School. It goes like this: “The B-I-B-L-E, yes, that’s the book for me! I stand alone on the Word of God, the B-I-B-L-E.” Such a simple song, yet one so profound in meaning!
It echoes the words of the apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, which says, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
This remarkable passage teaches us many important lessons about the Bible: (1) The whole Bible is from God; (2) The Bible teaches us what to believe doctrinally and how to live it out personally; (3) The Bible points out our sin and shows us how to correct it; (4) The Bible is a complete and sufficient message from God that teaches us everything we need to know to serve Him in righteousness.
In light of these wonderful truths, let us cast off the divisive and unnecessary creeds, dogmas, “holy books,” and traditions of denominationalism! Let us unite upon the Bible alone as our only standard of faith and practice. Then we can truly sing, “The B-I-B-L-E, yes, that’s the book for me! I stand alone on the Word of God, the B-I-B-L-E.”
