The Most Important Thing in Life

The story is told of a father who sat down one afternoon to watch his favorite football team play a game on TV. Just as he got comfortable in his favorite easy chair, his five-year old daughter came up to him and asked, “Daddy, when are we going for our walk?” You see, they took a walk together every afternoon.
Wanting to watch his game, the father responded, “We’ll go later, dear.” The daughter went off disappointed, but she returned a few minutes later and asked her dad again. He again brushed her off and told her they would go later. When she came back again a little while later, he took out a magazine, found a picture of the world, and cut it up into small pieces. He gave these to his daughter and told her, “When you tape these pieces together properly, then I promise you we will go for our walk.” The little girl took the pieces and went off.
The dad was sure he had distracted her long enough to let him finish watching the game. So he was astonished when she came back ten minutes later with the picture of the earth perfectly put back together! “How did you do that so quickly?” he asked her.
“Well it was easy,” she answered, “On the other side of the picture there was a picture of Jesus on the cross. So I just put Jesus back on the cross and that made the whole world better!” Without another word, he took his little girl for their walk.
That’s true of us too. When we put Jesus in the top place in our lives, our world will be right too. That’s why Christ Himself said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you” (Matt. 6:33).
