Spiritual Resolutions

by Travis L Quertermous

From The Reminder, January 8, 2012

We are now a week into the new year of 2012. Many folks are full of hope at the prospect of a new year. We often look back at the past year to learn where we stand at the present and then make our plans for the future.

The apostle Paul thought much the same way. In Philippians 3:13-14, he wrote, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Regarding the past, Paul said we must forget about it. Too many people look at the past and want to rest on their laurels where their successes are concerned or be discouraged and quit where their failures are concerned. But the past is the past and we cannot change it. We can only learn from it and try to build on it for the present and then make our plans for the future.

Paul’s future goal was to go to heaven and live in such a way to make that possible. Is that your foremost goal in life? If not, why not?
