The Blood of Christ by
Travis L. Quertermous
Recently,
the Dexter Church of Christ hosted another Red Cross blood drive. We are
honored to host two or three of these a year as a public service. Those
who give blood in this way have the satisfaction of knowing that someday
our blood will be used to save the life of someone in need. But the sad
truth is that the help our blood gives is only temporary and the patient
who receives it will someday die despite our best efforts and intentions.
But that is not true of the blood of Jesus
Christ which is able to wash away our sins and give us eternal life in
heaven. The apostle Paul wrote of Jesus, “In Him we have redemption
through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His
grace” (Eph. 1:7).
Note that Paul said we must be in Him
to receive forgiveness through His blood. But how do we get into Christ?
In Galatians 3:27, Paul taught, “For as many of you as were baptized into
Christ have put on Christ.” Thus we learn that we are baptized into Christ
and as a result our sins are washed away by the blood of Christ. Have you
been scripturally immersed into Christ today so that you might have
“redemption through His blood”?
