“Shhh! It’s A Secret!”

by Travis L. Quertermous

The recent scandal involving Tiger Woods has fascinated the American media and public recently. It seems that virtually every day for a time another loose woman came forward claiming to be yet another of his mistresses. At last count, the number was thirteen such women. The bloom has certainly come off the rose of this former golden boy. His reputation is in ruins, his family has been devastated, his wife has been humiliated, and his career is in jeopardy.

But Tiger Woods is certainly not the first person to try to cover up his sins. Cain tried to cover up his murder of his brother Abel (Gen. 4:9). David tried to cover up his adultery with Bathsheba and his subsequent murder of her husband Uriah (2 Sam. 11:6-27). But in each instance the cover-up was exposed.

Moses warned the children of Israel, “…and be sure your sin will find you out” (Num. 32:23). For many people, the painful truth comes out in a public and embarrassing way, like with Tiger Woods. But even if we are successful in covering up our sins from everyone else, we will never fool God. Hebrews 4:13 reminds us, “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” Instead of trying to cover up our sins, we need to repent of them and seek the forgiveness God offers us through the gospel of Christ.

God is like a parent to us.  He loves us and truly does care.  Learn to believe in Him, listen to Him and talk with Him.  Good things are in store for you.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.  Or what man is there among you who, if his son ask for bread, will give him a stone?  Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?  If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”  (Matthew 7:7-11).
