Text Box: Animals and Abortion
by Travis L. Quertermous

It seems that poor Michael Vick just cannot catch a break from the media. Ever since his August 20, 2007 conviction for dog fighting, the press has just “hounded” the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback (no pun intended). With the NFL season approaching, his every public move is scrutinized. It seems that many are just unwilling to forgive Vick, even though he has paid his debt to society and has given every indication of genuine repentance about the matter.
But where is the outrage at the more than 4000 abortions that are performed in this country every day? Where is the public outcry at the torture and killing of the most helpless of our citizens, the unborn? When dogs are tortured and killed, the public and the media demand justice, but they are largely silent when thousands of unborn babies are poisoned, dismembered, and killed in their mother’s wombs every day in the abortion mills of our country. It is a sad day when we are more concerned about dogs than babies.
God makes no distinction between the born and the unborn. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you,” said God to Jeremiah (Jer. 1:5). One of the seven things God hates is “Hands that shed innocent blood” (Prov. 6:17). Let us pray for an end to abortion-on-demand in our country.

Text Box: HOW TO FORGIVE

Because the art of forgiving those who injure is one of the finest of the spiritual graces, and because many honest people do no know how to forgive, we offer a few simple suggestions.

Begin by assuring yourself that you have not been seriously injured at all.
List the mercies you have enjoyed at the hands of God which you do not deserve.
Offer thanks to God for the spirit of forgiveness which comes upon his children.
Offer a prayer in behalf of the one who has wronged you.
Look for some opportunity to help him yourself.
Make a special effort to surprise him with some kind service.

Text Box: The Blind Girl
There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind.
She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, “If I could only see the world, I will marry you.”
One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend.
He asked her, “Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?” The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn’t expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.
Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: “Take good care of your eyes, my dear; for before they were yours, they were mine.”
