Don’s Delivery:
“WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?” I’m just a poor sinner and bound for the grave,
what–Oh pray tell me, must I do to be saved? In my present condition I
can’t enter in, Oh, what must I do to be freed from my sin? You must hear the word of God in order to begin. The
Holy Bible is the means which God has chosen to teach us of His
goodness, grace, love, mercy and righteous plan. It is here that we
learn of creation, Eden, the fall, and His promise of a Savior who would
balance the scale of justice once again. It is in the Scriptures, as
they are called, that the gospel and the hope of heaven are communicated
through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Romans 10:14-17; 2 Timothy
3:16-17 Once you hear the word you will be in a position to
receive and believed or to reject in disbelief. The choice is yours for
God created us as free moral agents. If you chose to receive and believe
you will want to respond to this truth and at this point you will be
asking “What shall we do?” Acts 2:29-37 With the knowledge of the gospel, the death, burial, and
resurrection of Christ received and your belief acknowledged you
will be told just as they were told on Pentecost to “repent.” Since
you wandered far away from God it’s time now to come back home. This
will only occur if you come to your senses and realize that it is better
to be with your heavenly Father than to be without Him. 2 Corinthians
7:9-10 At this point you will want to confess your allegiance
and belief in the Son of God. This is nothing to take lightly. There are
many who do not believe and will not make this confession. There are
others who make this confession audibly but sadly this is the depth of
their conviction and it isn’t long until they are bring shame to the
One who loved them enough to go to Calvary for them. For this confession
to be meaningful it must be made by those who have come to know and love
the truth that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God who loved them and
gave Himself for them. Matthew 10:32-33; Romans 10:8-13 It is this faith that will lead you to baptism where
your sins will be washed away as you call upon the name of the Lord. It
is at this point that you will be “born again.” It is this new birth
that moves us from a lost condition to a saved state. Now instead of
being outside of Jesus “as many of you as were baptized into Christ
have put on Christ.” John 3:1-7; Acts 8:26-39; 16:25-33; 22:16;
Galatians 3:26 Once you’re “born again” you will want to be a “living stone” in the “spiritual house” of God. 1 Peter 1:22-2:4 By: Don Bahr
